Eggs

Dear Parents,

This week, we went on a egg hunt around school. As we walked under the purple martin houses, the children found a few smooth, blue eggs. We have so many different birds at Marimont! I found this helpful website: http://www.purplemartin.org/update/10(3)egg.html.

Look for a new lesson about eggs and birds soon… 🙂

Here’s a website that

How to survive Water Day–tips from an old pro

Mrs. Rachel's Class at MMS

Dear Parents,

Each Friday during summer, we have an awesome Water/Bubble/Watermelon Day. The children LOVE this activity.

Each Friday (starting June 5th), please send your child to school with their bathing suits on underneath their clothing and with their sneakers on their feet (water shoes lack good traction for playing). Underwear and their water shoes can be put in their water day bag. I wanted to give everyone a few tips to take some of the stress out of packing and planning for Water Day.

1. Send a towel with your child’s name all over it. Literally. Tesla has a fish towel that we’ve used for 3 years with her name written on each fish. Please save all nice, fluffy, expensive towels for home. The summer sun dries the children off almost before they use their towels, anyway!

2. Label the tag on your child’s bathing suit and water day…

Changes…they are a-comin’

Hello Parents!

I wanted to let you know about a few big things that will change at our school in a short period of time!

I will be available at the school as a primary guide until June 12th. After that day, I hang up my primary hat, climb aboard an airplane, fly to Durham, North Carolina for three weeks and come back to lead the Lower Elementary class. The Lower Elementary class is NOT a traditional class and will not usually include kindergartners. The class will serve children aged 6-9. I am including some kindergartners this year because I have been teaching some of them for quite a period of time. The class is currently full.

I will be back at Marimont on July 2nd. There will be another teacher in our classroom, however! Starting June 22nd, Ms. JoAnna will be back to lead the front classroom! Ms. JoAnna has been at Marimont before and was in charge of Extended Care not too long ago. She is earning her Montessori certification and will be working with me to learn about our individual, amazing students and the finer points of Montessori. Ms. Stefanie was slated to lead the front class, but we had a sudden need for a lead guide in the back and she (wonderfully) stepped up to fill that opening.

The Lower Elementary will open in August with class officially starting later that month.

Please let me know if you have any questions! I will miss you all–but I’ll be around and about the school 🙂

Plastic bags desperately needed!

Dear Parents,

We are in desperate need of plastic, HEB/grocery store bags! If you have any laying about, we would really appreciate them.

Have a great day!

A few reminders about tomorrow

Dear Parents,
Wow! Tomorrow is the last day of the school year…this year just zipped by at lightning speed!
Tomorrow is also Dress-Like-a-Composer Day! I can’t wait to see everyone’s outfits. We will watch parts of Fantasia and eat popcorn in circle.
If your child is enrolling in the Lower Elementary program for next year, please remember that the $300 deposit is due tomorrow to hold their place.
Finally, a scrapbook page featuring your child, their formal progress report and a few extra photos of them are hanging on your child’s lunchbox hook today (Ms. TaQueria and Ms. Stefanie will have their pages ready tomorrow). Please keep your child’s progress report. If they are attending another school in the fall, you may need to make copies.
Have a fabulous day!

Baby bunnies

Dear Parents,

Due to certain events, I am now the caretaker of 5 very young wild bunnies. These little guys will be in their cage in a classroom. I will feed them during lesson time (one of the many times I will feed them throughout the day!). These are wild rabbits–if they survive, we’ll have a release party for them at the school.

Please let me know if you do not want your child to observe or to handle the rabbits. They are about a week old.
